Sophie was a young, healthy, beautiful and loving adoptable dog at Bradford County Animal Shelter in Florida. Instead of making arrangements for her and other urgent animals to be transported to the Mega Adoptathon in Jacksonville, she was killed. Despite volunteers offering to help the shelter with this and other other Mega Adoptathons, the animals were not allowed to participate. Over 550 animals were adopted at the Mega Adoptathon this past week. Shelters from numerous counties participated and one from Louisiana even drove 29 dogs to the Mega Adoptathon. The Bradford County Animal Shelter shows no interest in saving precious lives even though numerous surrounding shelters such as Duval, Clay, Nassau and Putnam have embraced the no kill movement saving thousands.  It appears that animals saved from Bradford County are mainly due to rescue groups pulling them. A New Years Resolution with a goal of saving the lives of all Bradford County homeless adoptable pets would be a solution to end the killing. A short list of recommendations would be to send all urgent homeless pets to the Mega Adoptathons, make adoption hours compatable with public viewing such as early evenings and weekends, create a website for adoptable and found pets and a foster program.

We the people care about the homeless pets at Bradford County Animal Shelter and are offering volunteer support, funds for transport or other means necessary to ensure their participation in future Mega Adoptathons in Jacksonville. Every adoption saves two lives, the one being adopted and the availability of an open kennel for another homeless pet.
