Indigo Girls, Cancel Your June 15 Concert at the Oregon Zoo

The Oregon Zoo's loud outdoor concerts are not music to everyone's ears.

Elephants' ears are very sensitive and have a range of up to six miles. They also hear with infrasonic sound through their feet. The elephant enclosure is just yards from the concert stage, and so their sensitive ears are bombarded with noise from the giant speakers. This goes on every weekend for three months every summer.

We know that the Indigo Girls are sensitive, caring people who are probably unaware of how much damage the loud music is doing to the elephants. Please sign this petition to help make them aware so that they will agree to cancel their concert at the Oregon Zoo.

The Oregon Zoo has a dark history of breeding elephants into lifetimes of suffering and early death. 21 of the 28 elephants born at the Oregon Zoo are now dead. Many contracted zoonotic diseases including TB and herpes. No elephant from the zoo will ever be released to the wild. We are urging the zoo to release its lone Borneo elephant Chendra to sanctuary. But until she is freed from her zoo cage, we need to do as much as possible to minimize the suffering of Chendra and the other elephants.

Sign this petition to urge the Indigo Girls to speak out for the five elephants at the Oregon Zoo and cancel their concert at the Zoo.
