Why is shark finning so popular? Shark finning is popular for several reasons. The main one being that the shark fin is the most expensive part of the shark, it can be sold for thousands of dollars. On January 4th, 2011, the Shark Conservation Act of 2010 was signed into office. The Shark Conservation Act of 2010 made shark finning illegal in the United States. Despite the fact that finning is illegal, the sale of shark fins is still legal in several US states. For example, In South Carolina the sale of shark fins is still legal.
The sale of shark fins should be banned. It encourages the sale of a product that could lead to the extinction of many shark species. As long as the fins continue to be sold, then the industry will continue. If the industry continues then that means more and more lives of sharks lost and possible extinction.
