A Federal Stimulus package of 25 Billion dollars for Transit should be allocated to schools in order for them to replace diesel buses with clean electric buses.
Diesel buses emit 3,000 tons of cancer causing soot, and childhood exposure to diesel fumes is directly related to reduced lung function.
The schools are under terrible financial pressure post Covid. Electric buses could save $400k in fuel costs and $125k in averted maintenance costs.
We want Governor Cuomo, Senator Peter Harckham and Assemblywoman Sandy Galef to secure funding from the Federal Stimulus package for our schools to transition our dirty diesel fleets to clean electric.
Tell them this is not only a clean air issue, but a climate change concern.
We need to meet our NY State climate goals.
