It is further victimizing and traumatic to have to pay when attempting to be proactive about your safety. It is a deliberate attempt to profit SPECIFICALLY from the oppression of Women and members of the LGBTQIA Community, who lead in cases of domestic violence, assault and murder in The United States. It is CLASSIST, HOMOPHOBIC, TRANSPHOBIC, MISOGYNISTIC and WRONG to use a community's pain as a means for meeting income quotas, monthly budgets and swollen payrolls. Studies have proven time and time again that not only do people feel unsafe going to the police for help but that they simply cannot afford to 'contract' a piece of paper stipulating that they, 'X Person' attempted to publicly acknowledge their abuser and thus are deserving of the right to a legal boundary of space to separate them from their abuser. And sadly it is also a fact that many who cannot afford this PRIVILEGE end up becoming victims of murder. This is MALE DRIVEN BUREAUCRACY AT IT'S FINEST and it is a system of oppression that must be exposed and dismantled! .
This petition also demands for a restructuring of the protocol for the processing of Restraining Order Applications to include access to mandatorily available, on location support staff and requires applicant to have the right to request a county provided Psychologist/Therapist to be present during their consultation with the on duty officers that will be processing their application.
