A man was crushed to death after he entered an enclosure, allegedly to take a selfie with Sundar.
According to the police the man & a few friends, who allegedly had had a few drinks, went into the forest area behind the biological park, which was closed on the day.
16 yr old Sundar was kept in an enclosure built specifically for him as it was in musth (a periodic condition when elephants display highly aggressive behaviour)
In all these years, there has not been a report of Sundar attacking humans. Even if Sundar caused the death, animals tend to do this out of self-defence or when they feel threatened,” said Manilal Valliyate of PETA India.
Nearly a decade ago, Sundar was sold to a temple in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, where he was abused, chained and tortured. PETA ran a long campaign to free him. The global campaign saw Paul McCartney of The Beatles and actors Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit and Pamela Anderson lending support. After the battle reached the courts, Sundar was shifted to the BBP in 2014.
Please don't let the stupidity of an individual who selfishly wanted a selfie with Sundar affect this innocent elephant's life!!
Stricter security is needed to ensure Sundar is safe from human intervention!!
