Governor Inslee: Stop Enabling Plastic and Pesticide Pollution in Puget Sound

Washington State Governor Jay Inslee continues to support ecologically dangerous initiatives put forward by the shellfish industry. "Streamlined permitting" of new and expanded shellfish aquaculture threatens all sea life—salmon, whales, indigenous vegetation—as well as the natural beauty of our Puget Sound and coastal shorelines.

Industrial shellfish operators seek to expand to all shoreline areas in Washington. Over 900 aquaculture permits have been granted since January 2012. The Governor, the WA State Legislature, and the WA Department of Ecology are choosing to ignore the serious concerns voiced by citizens, environmental scientists and researchers.

We need to add your voice to ensure that our concerns are no longer dismissed. Please sign our petition and help protect the waters of Puget Sound, and the Washington coast, from tons of industrial plastics and pesticides.

To Governor Inslee and the Washington State Legislature: Stop supporting the unsustainable and destructive practices of the shellfish industry, which is continuing unchecked to introduce tons of plastic and pesticides into the shared treasure that is Puget Sound, as well as our coastal waters. We demand that existing legislation requiring “no net loss” of ecological function in Puget Sound and the coast be honored and enforced.
