Make Vitamins & Other Dietary Supplements FSA and HSA Eligible

  • by: Health-E Commerce
  • recipient: The 70+ million Americans who utilize flexible spending accounts (FSAs) and health savings accounts (HSAs) to save on yearly healthcare expenses.

For more than 70 million Americans, flexible spending accounts (FSAs) and health savings accounts (HSAs) help pay for everyday health costs like doctor visits and co-payments, surprise medical bills, thousands of qualified medical products that consumers use every day and more.

However, most vitamins and other dietary supplements are notably absent from FSA and HSA eligibility. Vitamins have long been a top-requested eligibility category from customers of FSAstore.com and HSAstore.com and 77% of Americans take at least one supplement. Unfortunately to date, only prenatal vitamins and glucosamine have been recognized by the industry as qualified, eligible products. We hope you'll join us in our efforts to change that.

A bipartisan bill called The Dietary Supplements Access Act (HR 4784) was introduced in the US House of Representatives in July 2023, and if made law, would expand FSA/HSA eligibility to include vitamins & other dietary supplements. A similar bill (S. 3172) was also introduced in the Senate in October 2023.

We applaud the introduction of these bills and call on Congress and agencies like the IRS to continue to address this gap in FSA & HSA eligibility.
