Care2 Update 03/31/2023: It happened: Donald Trump was indicted. He has become the first former U.S. president to face criminal charges. While this indictment is due to his pay-out to Stormy Daniels, this is a good first step in finally holding Trump accountable. Keep signing and sharing to demand Trump be indicted for his role in the insurrection!

Donald Trump
announced that he is running for president, again. This is the same man who encouraged several thousand right-wing conspiracy theorists to storm the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to overturn the 2020 election results – all because he lost.

Trump – the first president in US history to be impeached twice – incited an insurrection and attempted to overthrow a federal election. Sign the petition to demand the Department of Justice finally charge Trump for his role in the insurrection!

Trump actively told his supporters to go to the Capitol, explicitly stating that they had his support in the insurrection. For this, Donald Trump must be charged with inciting an insurrection and seditious conspiracy. Any charge less serious than this will embolden and encourage future violent threats to our democracy.

Trump's announcement is conveniently timed – it comes ahead of any potential indictments in the multiple ongoing criminal investigations into his conduct. As the Washington Post put it: Trump is "a defeated former president running for election again while facing potential criminal indictment."

It is ludicrous that Trump plans to run for president when he is under FBI investigation. It is even more ridiculous that it has taken so long to charge Trump with seditious conspiracy and insurrection for what happened in 2020. Sign the petition to demand the Department of Justice finally charge Trump!
