Repeal California Bill AB 183 - Alcoholic beverage licenses: self-service checkouts

I’m asking that all California residents sign my petition to repeal California Bill AB 183 Alcoholic beverage licenses: self-service checkouts.

California Legislators authored this bill on the premises purchasing alcoholic beverages through self-service checkouts:

(a) Facilitates the purchase of alcoholic beverages by minors.

(b) Permits customers who are in an advanced state of intoxication to

purchase additional alcoholic beverages, in violation of state law.

(c) Allows for greater theft of alcoholic beverages, thereby depriving the

state of tax revenues.

In my experiences purchasing alcoholic beverages through self –service checkouts, I’ve always received a screen that the checker must manually clear after an ID check to allow me to proceed with the purchase.  A checker has the ability to cancel a purchase for someone too intoxicated.

And let’s face facts.   If a teen has decided to steal alcohol, they will circumvent the self-service checkout altogether.  Next, they’ll be passing laws telling us what day of the week/time of day alcohol can be purchased.

Let send a message to the lawmakers of the state of California that we will not stand for frivolous laws.  They should be concentrating on the bigger decisions that impact the residents of California, like the state budget, and making sure we have enough Police and Firefighters.

Thank you.
