Free Iranian Women's Rights Activist Fereshteh Shirazi

Fereshteh Shirazi, a women's rights activist from Amol, Iran, was arrested in September 2011 and has been imprisoned since that time. In January 2012, an appeals court upheld a sentence of three years of imprisonment for "women's rights activities" and writing about women's rights online.

Sign this petition to demand the immediate and unconditional release of Fereshteh Shirazi.

Shirazi's living conditions in prison are extremely harsh, and because there is no distinction among prisoners, she is housed among violent offenders. Because of these conditions, she has repeatedly requested transfer to a prison in another part of the country, but her requests have been denied.

Please act now to send a clear message that supporting women's rights is not a crime. Sign now to call on Iranian leaders to release Fereshteh Shirazi from prison.
We the undersigned ask you to repeal your sentence of Fereshteh Shirazi, who currently faces three years of imprisonment for women's rights activities. Shirazi's living conditions are extremely harsh, as she is currently being housed among violent offenders. Her support of women's rights has been non-violent and does not deserve criminal punishment. We call on you to release Fereshteh Shirazi from prison immediately and unconditionally.
