Reinstate Chief Luther and Sergeant Pitts

Rogers' police politics spur resignations

On February 10, 2011, Chief Luther and Sergeant Pitts were placed on administrative leave for allegations of misconduct. The City of Rogers released information that alleged that these officers committed acts of corruption. Nothing is further from the truth.

The complaints against these outstanding officers were made by disgruntled police department employees to the City Administrator. These employees made the complaints to retaliate against Luther and Pitts for attempting to discipline them. The City Administrator wrote in the complaint, "I have no direct knowledge of the allegations or events therein described."

City Administrator Stahmer had knowledge that these complaints were not credible, yet placed a department head and supervisor on administrative leave. 

Former Councilman Scott Adams, who resigned in protest from the Rogers Police Commission, issued a prepared statement in defense of Luther and Pitts, stating, "I believe that is either showing a serious lack of proper managerial skills or possible collusion in a larger corruption." He also noted, "The allegations against these two individuals did not warrant the Administrative Leave action."

Mayor Jason Grimm made a statement on February 22, 2011 where he stated, "The City Council did not meet or vote on this matter." He continued, "The City Council has authorized the city administration (staff with the advice of counsel) to decide whether to place officers on administrative leave."
