Stop the Keystone Pipeline - Don't Just Delay It
Keystone XL is a pipeline proposed by TransCanada. It would carry dirty oil from the tar sands in Canada to Texas for refinement.
The Keystone XL pipeline could mean disaster for the environment. Tar sand oil is the world's most harmful type of oil for the atmosphere.
A spill could contaminate drinking water for 2 million people and would have significant consequences for wildlife and the environment. The pipeline would also increase pollution and co2 emissions, destroy wildlife habitat, and may even increase US gas prices.
Jim Hansen, head of the the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies and a climatologist, says if the tar sands are used, it would be "essentially game over" for the climate.
But instead of stopping the pipeline, Obama has simply delayed the decision until after the 2012 presidential election.
Please tell the President that you would like him to stop the pipeline now, instead of waiting until he is re-elected (or leaving it up to the next president if he is not).
We the undersigned ask that you say no to the Keystone XL pipeline now, instead of delaying it until after the elections. The Keystone XL pipeline could mean disaster for the environment. You should ensure that there is no chance of the project being approved in the future.
