Require Competency Test to hold Political Office

To become a lawyer, you must pass the Bar.  Fly an airplane, FAA certification.  Doctor, Board certification.  US citizen, USCIS test.  To hold political office, nothing.  Mayor, governor, lawmaker, president (any office for that matter) are arguably some of the most important jobs in a society and yet there are no tests or certifications required.  It's easier to declare your candidacy in the US than to get a driver's license.  Since there seems to be a greater and greater number of grossly incompetent politicians being elected to office, I'm suggesting the formation of some type of national political testing board to help ensure, to some degree, that those who are allowed to run for office are educated, rational, well-informed, sane individuals.  Before anyone is allowed to run for office they should first be able to prove they have a basic understanding of national and world history.  Be fairly well-versed on current events.  Be adherents to the scientific method.  Have a good understanding of (and be proponents of) ethics and civics.  They should also be required to undergo a psychological evaluation along with a physical.
