California Governor Gavin Newsom is proposing a 28th amendment to the U.S. Constitution to fight our country's gun violence epidemic. This is the kind of monumental change we need! And finally, we are going on the offense!
The amendment would raise the federal minimum age to buy a firearm to 21 from 18, mandate universal background checks, institute a waiting period for all gun purchases, and ban assault rifles nationally.
So far, our leaders have failed to act in the face of one tragedy after another. But this amendment would be the major step forward we need. Look, passing an amendment will not be easy, but there is broad support for these measures, so if we push hard enough, we can make this happen.
