Celebrate First Nations People with an Aboriginal week on Masterchef Australia

First Nations People and cultures are often negatively reported on in mainstream media in Australia.Media plays a large role in influencing the ideas and perceptions of populations, and negative stories about First Nations People (FNP) in the media contribute to an environment of fear and prejudice. In order to reduce this prejudice and fear towards FNP, the positive aspects of the many cultures and people need to be front and centre within mainstream media.

Masterchef is extremely widespread, both in Australia and overseas. An Aboriginal Week on Masterchef could teach both contestants and people at home how to find food in the bush, prepare native ingredients and cook beautiful foods using these ingredients.

This would certainly make steps towards reducing the prejudice towards FNP in the wider community. It would also provide a starting point for friendly conversations between Aussies and First Nations People, allow people to learn about aboriginal culture and tradition, and teach people how to use more than 50,000 years of cooking skill and knowledge to make delicious food.
