Texas, Don't Let Big Gas Gobble Small Towns!

Shale gas fracking has sucked about the last drop of water out of Barnhart, Texas. Ranchers can't water their goats and cattle. Cotton farmers lost about half their crops. Residents went to brush their teeth and found their taps no longer worked. They were without tap water for five days. The 104 wells drilled to service big gas have basically tapped the town dry.

And Barnhart is not alone. Big oil's greed for water combined with global warming mean that thirty Texas communties may run out of water by the end of this year, according to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Clearly Texan politicians have put the interests of big oil and gas above every other industry and even over the very lives of Texas residents. Tell the Texas Legislature to stop letting gas and oil suck Texas communities dry!

We the undersigned are outraged to hear that Texas towns are running out of water. And the problem seems to be that you have put the interests of big oil and gas above every other industry and above the lives of your own residents.

Thirty Texas communities could run out of water by the end of this year. Barnhart, Texas is more or less doomed. After running out of water completely for five days, it is now running on the last emergency well it could find.

We are all well aware that big oil and gas give generously to your reelection campaigns. But you have no right to let those industries suck the very life out of Texas. Put a cap on gas and oil water consumption in your state!
