Five Puppies Died After Owners Tied Their Mama Dog Outside in Sub-Freezing Temperatures

Temperatures in the United States have been freezing this winter. States have regularly been sending out alerts warning residents of extreme winter weather, and the importance of being prepared in order to protect themselves and those around them.

But a couple in Pennsylvania ignored these warnings. Instead, they left three dogs tied up outside their home, including one mama dog. Inside, they had squished seven puppies inside a crate - separated from their freezing mother. As a result, five of the puppies died.

When authorities arrived, temperatures outside - where the three dogs were still tied up - had dropped to the single-digits (Fahrenheit). That's around -15 Celsius. Authorities didn't find any proper shelter, water, or even food outside for the desperate animals.

The dogs, two females and one male, had as a result become "very skinny," with their skeletons protruding out through their emaciated skin.

Meanwhile, the puppies were also being starved. They needed access to their mother for her milk to feed them. But since they had been separated - and allegedly even denied access to other forms of food or water, too - five of the tiny babies starved to death.

The couple have since been arrested and charged with over 30 counts of felony animal abuse. Regardless of what happens next, they must never be allowed around animals.
