STOP The Marijuana Rezoning In Our Backyard!

  • by: Karen M
  • recipient: Leoni Township Board of Trustees and Planning Commission, Jackson, MI

I live in vicinity of parcels 000-14-15-126-003-00, 000-14-15-200-001-01, and 000-10-14-10-451-002-01 (corner of Lee and Napoleon Roads) or in Leoni Township and am signing below to voice my opposition to the request of Donald and Christine Schmucker, non-residents of Leoni Township, for rezoning from R-1 (single family residential) to Agricultural because it would allow whoever owns these properties to grow and process marijuana in my backyard.

Please attend the Leoni Township Planning Commission public hearing on April 18, 2018 at 6:30 pm at the Leoni Township meeting hall, 913 Fifth Street, Michigan Center.  If this rezoning is passed, homes within a 1/2 mile radius will lose approximately 10% of their value, a skunk smell will travel with the direction of the wind decreasing your quality of life, and the wetland located on this property (right on Center Lake) will be in danger.

Update #45 years ago
Help STOP the 82 plus marijuana licenses in Leoni Township! The number of marijuana licenses in Leoni Township continues to grow. VOTE FOR CHANGE. Vote for Dan Gough Supervisor, Mark Carpenter Clerk, and Patrick Clemente Treasurer on November 6 in Leoni Township. All three will work to curb the number of licenses in Leoni Township.

The Leoni Township Board of Trustees will open the MM ordinance at a Special Meeting on Tuesday, September 18 at 5:45 p.m. at the township hall. The BOT will revise how measurement is done for daycares, churches, and schools. I am asking you to attend this meeting and speak to the BOT and ask them to permanently remove the ag. zoning from the MM ordinance at this meeting, while the ordinance is open for changes. The moratorium on ag. is only temporary, lets make the removal of ag. permanent.

Thank you for supporting our successful efforts to stop the rezoning on Napoleon and Lee Roads.
The only real way to slow down the 73 marijuana licenses now in Leoni Township is to change the composition of the Board of Trustees. Email me at eldonnaruddock@gmail.com if you would be interested in signing a recall petition before June 8, 2018. I can bring this recall petition to you to sign.

Please attend the Leoni Township Planning Commission meeting Wednesday April 18 at 6:30 pm at the Leoni Township Hall. Tell them NOT to rezone the properties on Napoleon and Lee Rds from R-1 to Agricultural for a marijuana grow facility! Please sign in when you arrive to speak and tell them how this will affect your family, community, home value, and environment. Last week, Leoni Township Board voted to allow 4 class C grow licenses and 1 process facility right next to a residential neighborhood
