Acknowledge Companion Animals as More than "Just a thing.". Boo's cause

Currently, dogs(cats), are considered "things/property.". This exempts any type of acknowledgement, of "pain and suffering (both for owner and beloved pet)," if not given proper medical attention/treatment. If there is any form of malpractice, the pet, which to any loving responsible owner is considered a family member, is deemed an object. The pet would be ordered "replaced," and the medical bills reimbursed/removed. But the court costs, attorney fees, and any real emotional pain caused(to family), or if the pet survives-extended pain and suffering of the pet is discarded. The current circumstances are-a companion animal, would be looked at, as any unfeeling, non-living, item/object. Clearly, that is not true. Laws are being made against abuse. Because companion animals, love, feel, and to so many people are their extended family members. We love them, care for them, and they become our best friends. We share our feelings with them, they are capable of loving, and feeling things including pain when injured or sick. They can and often do become service animals/therapy animals. Because they are so amazingly in tune with people. So ask "how can they be considered objects/personal property?". Often if a companion animal is misdiagnosed, the family is told there is nothing they can do, when the pet dies. And the professionals trusted to do all they can, are held not accountable. I am not talking about a vet, who does everything they can. And something unforeseeable happening. I am talking about denying a pet proper care. One such example, is Boo. As many people do when a beloved furbaby is ill, Boo was rushed to a veterinary ER. He had a history of a trachea cough. However, this clearly did not look like that. The ER would not accept anyone calling in payment. Etc. Most of us hear this at some time, as a pet owner. So CareCredit was applied to. Immediately, owner was treated differently. The veterinarian, never came out/met with owner. And after awhile, Boo was returned still choking, tongue hanging out of mouth. With the assistant saying, he was better after oxygen. And suffered a trachea collapse, and possible upper respiratory infection. All meds given, except antibiotics(which the upset owner had to go back for the same night). Regular vet was seen within 48 hrs, due to no improvement. Meds were added/changed. Fast forward 14 days. Boo had a seizure. Vet says they can see him. Does an X-Ray. Boo needed emergency surgery, and a transfusion. His fight for life, ended 3 days later. Because of the wait and misdiagnosis.   Boo was not property nor "just a dog.". He was not a "thing", without feelings. He was a constant loving companion. No suffering or pain? Seriously? Boo's owner watched helplessly, as he was treated. Praying he would get well. But his little body, with such a huge heart and spirit just couldn't do it. He was not a lamp, or a piece of furniture. Anyone who's looked into their companion animal's(furbaby)eyes, and saw the love knows that. There is no way to "replace," our pets. Because they are all unique, with their own personalities. You can look at hundreds "just like him/her." But they never will be your beloved furbaby. They feel, think, understand, and are capable of love. Owner is left with loss, and pain. And is told "well there is no pain and suffering, concerning a companion animal, they are considered property.". Please help change this.

Update #15 years ago
Contacted Vet, asking for insurance. They know about Boo's passing. Their reply was to have an attorney request it.
