Save Murwillumbah's Community-led Flood Recovery Hub 2484!

Hub 2484, Murwillumbah’s Community-led Flood Recovery and Resilience Hub, will close at the end of August 2023 without additional funding support or a permanent space for operations.
If you have received help from the Hub since the floods, or would just like to show your support for our effort, please sign this petition.
Hub 2484 grew out of the community’s spontaneous response to the devastating floods in 2022 when there were no other services available to offer support, setting up in a privately leased flood-impacted building in the CBD. The community does this after every disaster, but we deserve to be supported!
We believe it’s essential for the community to have a space to operate from for future disasters, a space where we can access the support we need to recover, a space where we can share our grief, heal our trauma, to build our resilience, and to plan and prepare better for future disasters.
Since the floods we have helped thousands of flood impacted community members in the 2484 area and beyond, we have managed hundreds of spontaneous volunteers and distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars in emergency relief, and material and financial donations. We have provided a safe space for flood impacted community members to come and be supported, to connect, participate in activities, volunteer, and access financial and psychological support, advice and referrals. No other service offers what we do, we exist because there was no other service available!
We have done what we’ve done with very little financial support for operations. Our town missed out on the NSW Government Recovery Support Funding that was rolled out across the Northern Rivers six months after the floods and we continue to be overlooked.
The threat of natural disasters is becoming more frequent and more severe, and our community is no better resourced to respond and recover than it was before the flood.
We need our local and state government bodies to acknowledge and support our work by providing a permanent space for our community-led disaster response, recovery and resilience building in Murwillumbah, and funding for core operational costs to run it.

    With thanks,
The M|CORE (Murwillumbah Community Organised Resilience Effort) Hub 2484 team
