It's been all over the news: a yet-to-be-confirmed report that Russia had information about Trump that could have compromised his presidential bid, and that they had been secretly following his career and working to bolster him for many years.
An election tainted by foreign interference is something that can not be taken lightly. The concept threatens the very fibers of our democracy. And while Mr. Trump and Republicans in Congress don't seem to be making the necessary steps to acknowledge the gravity of this situation, it is the responsibility of our elected leaders to protect our democracy at all costs.
If our governmental leaders want to show that they truly stand for democracy and the will of the people, they need to look at the facts: there is incontrovertible evidence that our election was meddled with by a foreign government. More than 70 million people in this country did not vote for the winning presidential candidate Donald Trump, and his primary opponent Hillary Clinton received almost 3 million more votes than him.
This is not democracy at its best. If we want to protect the values under which this country was founded, we must take swift, extreme action. Please sign this petition to demand a one-time special election for U.S. president.
