A couple from Manitowoc, Wisconsin has been caught abusing their two dogs after one dog even died from the mistreatment. Police came to their home on Tuesday, December 4th after receiving an anonymous report about the couple yelling at each other. Once they arrived, officers discovered a dead dog, wrapped up in a blanket.
The officer described the deceased 2-year old dog as: "an extremely malnourished gray and white pit bull [mix] type dog. The dog appeared to be skin and bones. I could see the ribs and hip bones protruding through his skin." Officers discovered a second pit bull mix dog in the home, who seemed "extremely malnourished and weak," with bones bulging out through her skin, too.
The couple said they kept the dogs downstairs, and when police went to investigate, they observed an overwhelming smell of feces and actual piles of feces laying out on the carpet and covering baby toys. There were no food or water dishes out anywhere.
Police brought the two dogs to a local veterinarian, who confirmed that the still-living dog was "extremely underweight and dehydrated," and seemed to have suffered from starvation.
The veterinarian also examined the dead dog and found that he was also "severely emaciated and dehydrated," with bruises inside his lips and sores on his left ear. He had no food at all inside of his stomach or intestines. The vet also determined that the dog didn't suffer from any diseases or disabilities, so it had probably died of starvation.
A nearby Humane Society has taken in the still-living dog, where she is being cared for a nourished back to health.
The couple has been arrested and are currently facing multiple charges of mistreating animals. But BOTH abusers have been released from police custody and are out on bail.
Can you imagine a world in which these two people are allowed to continue abusing other animals? One in which they don't face accountability and justice for their heinous crimes? We must demand that these individuals are held responsible for the death, abuse and starvation of their dogs!
