Vote For Extention of Foster Care Services

More than 200,000 young people in foster care will not reunite with their family but will instead age out of the foster care system because they cannot find permanent housing and they are too old to remain. Whether or not they were given the tools to be successful they will now be on their own. It is a worry for the thousands of people that will age out of the system each year and become homeless, hungry and without proper education or support. Bill H.R.2847 - Improving Services for Older Youth in Foster Care Act should be passed so that youth who age out can have an equal access to the same opportunities as the youth in the general population. Bill H.R.2847 - Improving Services for Older Youth in Foster Care Act will teach the youth life skills, give them access to vouchers for up to five years of educational programs and they will have access to support and resources until they are 23 years old. This policy supports the NASW code of ethics by ensuring social justice. The policy will bring social change to the vulnerable and oppressed group of people (NASW, 2008).
