Last winter, hurricane-force winds of over 100 mph struck Žarkovica Animal Shelter perched on the mountain high above the city of Dubrovnik, leaviing much of the shelter destroyed and nearly 300 dogs unprotected in violent winter storms.
The shelter is the work of a woman who has devoted her life to rescuing the strays of Dubrovnik with little help or acknowledgement from the city. She lives alone on the mountain with the dogs and is helped by two day workers and volunteers from around the world.
Winter is coming again and soon the dogs and their dedicated caretaker will be without heat, power, or running water. A few weeks ago, an ancient stone wall crumbled, tragically killing one of the beloved dogs, and more walls are on the verge of falling with every new storm. The city refuses to build a proper shelter and they refuse to help repair Žarkovica Animal Shelter.
Please sign the petition to demand help from the city for Dubrovnik's homeless dogs! You can also help by donating to the shelter's Go Fund Me campaign or volunteering.
Help us show Sandra and these deserving animals that the world is watching and we care!
