There's Power In Numbers

Under-staffing in long term care facilities has interfered with the quality of healthcare. My goal is to decrease the nurse to resident ratio for staffing on each designated shift. Not only have I been employed by understaffed facilities, but I have witnessed the complaints of family members and those close to me.

The specific purpose of this petition is to increase awareness concerning the understaffing in long term care facilities.  It may not be on today's agenda for some, but it maybe an option that must be discussed and researched in the near future when deciding on long term care for yourself or a loved one.

My credibility began approximately 13 yrs ago when I entered into the medical field and it continued through credible research.  Understaffing in long term care facilities not only compromises care, but contributes to the shortage of nurses by creating an enviroment that drives nurses from the bedside.

My goal is to decrease nurse to patient ratio per shift amongst staffing.  Not only will this increase the time that nurses will have to care for each patient properly, but it will decrease the percentages  of nurse burnouts and patient deaths, amongst other underlying concerns.
