In an unusual plea deal, a Spencer man has been sentenced to 15 years on probation after pleading guilty to brutally raping and sodomizing a 13-year-old girl at camp.
The Charges:
1. Rape - First Degree
2. Forcible Sodomy
3. Rape by Instrumentation
Benjamin Lawrence Petty, 36, tied rope around the girl's wrists, raped her and then threatened her with physical harm if she told anyone, according to the criminal charge.
The reason his plea deal was accepted was because "he was Legally Blind" but he wasn't to blind to rape and victimize a 13 year old girl. Now he is free to victimize someone else.
Murray County D.A. 's office is a joke to accept this plea, they do not value girls or their lives. That is the message this sends. Write Murray County Court and be sure not to vote to re-elect the DA and judges in this case.
