The Vancouver Humane Society (VHS) has launched a campaign against the 30 year old BC Rodeo Association (BCRA) sanctioned rodeo at the Chilliwack Fair that is put on by our local Chilliwack Rodeo Association (CRA) and their volunteers. VHS demands cancellation of 3 rodeo events, which would result in the loss of the sanctioned rodeo, the demise of the 30 year old Chilliwack Rodeo Assoc., and a great loss to our community.
The rodeo has an excellent safety record and meets or exceeds all BCRA rules and regulations. It is the first rodeo in BC to implement the new 'Calgary Rules' to protect animals. In 2018 the City of Chilliwack built a new $100,000 rodeo arena with state of the art chutes and stalls to further improve safety for livestock and people. The Fair and Rodeo enjoy the support of the community, with over 130 business sponsors, hundreds of volunteers, and thousands of spectators.
