Puerto Rico Relief

I haven't really done this before nor do I know how to even start a peaceful protest but what has been going on with Puerto Rico is too much for me to stand by and watch. I grew up with an amazing Puerto Rican family. FEMA says that this is the longest black out in U.S history. It is heart wrenching how many people have had to leave their homes. Puerto Rico that has been a territory since 1898, and its 3.4 million people are U.S. citizens and, yet many are left with almost nothing. Everyone depends on power food and clean water. Last week ran into a woman who reminded me of my Mama Marytalina (my grandmother) and asked where she was from, she almost broke down into tears, as she told me Puerto Rico. She then told me about how she won’t be able to go home for possibly another year. I gave her a hug but that was not going to be the last thing I was going to give her. Not only have the people of Puerto Rico lost their homes but their jobs. With voices we can make a difference that is why I am reaching out to everyone to find an answer to this problem that can be helped with involvement of our government. Let's try to help them turn their lights back on, turn another leaf and fight for what can be changed and help other people. These are American people. "government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
This walk is meant to bring to light the issues that Washington has ignored. The people of Puerto Rico deserve greater government intervention in helping them rebuild and return to a sense of normalcy.
