Ban Plastic Bags in the US Virgin Islands!!

The Eco-Club students of Gifft Hill School in coordination with the Community Foundation of St. John, realize that plastic bags are one of the main cause of loss of marine wildlife and plastic pollution.

HELP US BAN PLASTIC BAGS FROM OUR ISLANDS and help preserve our spectacular natural resources and unique wildlife for generations to come!

    • Plastic bags are consumed at an approximate rate of ONE MILLION PER MINUTE.

    • 260 species of marine organisms are directly threatened by plastic debris through ingestion or entanglement.

    • Multiple places including San Padre Island, Maui, and Ireland have successfully banned or placed a tax on plastic bag use.

    • Our landfills are approaching capacity and are facing EPA mandated shut down.

    • Plastic degrades the beauty of our islands by littering the hillsides and polluting our water quality.   It never goes "away".  It simply breaks down to tiny particles and can be toxic to humans when ingested.

Whether you live here, visit, or respect this unique beautiful environment, please support us in our quest to ban plastic bags in the US Virgin Islands!
