Demand Justice for Yvette Smith

We need justice for Yvette Smith, a 47-year-old woman who was killed unlawfully on February 16th, 2014. Yvette Smith, a 47-year-old mother of three, was at her friend Willies house. Yvette was attempting to stop an argument between Willie and his son, when Willie’s girlfriend called 911 and said to come and there was a gun in the home. By the time police came, the argument was over, and Willie was outside of the house. Officer Daniel Willis instructed everyone who was inside the house to come outside, and Yvette followed his orders and opened the door. As soon as she did, Willis yelled, “Police!”, then 3 seconds later he shot her with his personal AR-15. She was shot 2 times and killed. The Police department said he thought she had a gun, then they quickly retracted that statement. After the killing, supervisors modified his field training records to make sure they were completed accurately, and he also was rejected from the Austin Police because he failed his psychological exam. In April of 2016, he was found not guilty of murder. Our goal is to get the case reopened and to receive justice for her. Go to www.austintexas.gov/email/police3 and ask for them to consider them asking to reopen the case.
