Give Our Brave First Responders Support While They Fight COVID-19!
- by: Care2 Team

When you hear the term 'first responder,' the image of an EMT or a firefighter might come to mind. These are the folks that put their bodies in jeopardy in order to bring their skills to the front lines of a crisis. But during a pandemic, the front lines look a little different, and therefore so do first responders. Folks like grocery store workers, pharmacy employees, warehouse workers, delivery people, and hospital staff are absolutely essential to keeping the fabric of society intact. In the heroic act of feeding, supporting, and defending the public, these workers are putting themselves directly in harm's way.Sign PetitionSign Petition

We know that the coronavirus is most commonly spread through personal contact (anything under six feet) between an infected and healthy person. Often, carriers of the virus are asymptomatic, and therefore do not feel the need to avoid crowded grocery stores, medical supply stores, or other life-sustaining businesses. This means that the employees working during this pandemic are at a significantly heightened risk of contracting the disease. In addition, while the vast majority of communities are practicing social distancing and self-isolation, folks working in warehouses and delivering packages and food are working harder than ever. They bravely continue to work to get us the food and supplies we need, and they must be compensated with extra pay to cover any expenses that may arise from this danger - aka hazard pay.
Additionally, doctors, nurses, hospital technicians, and hospital environmental workers are knowingly risking exposure to this deadly virus every single day in order to save lives and keep hospitals clean and running. Many stories are coming from the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, describing doctors, nurses, and other personnel quarantining away from their families and loved ones so as not to risk spreading the disease further. Hazard pay would cover these accommodations that these heroes are currently taking upon themselves.
Right now, Trump is much more worried about the stock market and his own approval rating than the lives of these heroes. But it is those selfless individuals that are risking their lives to save ours. The least we can do is provide them with hazard pay! Please sign the petition to tell Trump and his administration to get their priorities straight - hazard pay for all pandemic first responders!
