Tell Pete Hegseth: Don't rename warship honoring gay rights icon Harvey Milk!

To mark the beginning of Pride month, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that he was ordering the Navy to rename the John Lewis-class replenishment oiler USS Harvey Milk. Harvey Milk was one of the gay rights movement's most important leaders before he was assassinated, and there is no possible reason that the ship honoring his memory should be renamed that doesn't stem from appalling bigotry.

Hegseth claims he wants to "restore warrior culture" to the Pentagon by renaming the USS Harvey Milk, but all he's doing is trying to erase the memory of the gay men and women who served this country — and the painful reminders of the way they were treated, like how Harvey Milk was forced to accept an "other than honorable" discharge from the Navy or face court-martial for his sexuality.

It's time for us to raise our voices in defense of gay icons and their memories. Add your name to tell the Pentagon DON'T rename Harvey Milk's ship!
