House bill (HR 6693) has been introduced by Congressman Gerald Connolly (D-VA) of the House of Representatives Animal Protection Caucus to restore the original intent of the 1970 Animal Welfare Act which protects all warm blooded animals. In 2002,
Senator Jesse Helms (R-NC) gutted the AWA and removed protection for 95% of animals used in research with a Senate amendment to the Farm Bill.
House bill (HR 6693) will reverse that and
restore the original intent of the Animal Welfare Act.Restoring the original Animal Welfare Act will protect rats, mice, and birds will eliminate poorly conducted scientific experiments and testing. This will improve science, bolster the economy in the long-term, and stop taxpayers from funding wasteful research.
