Modify the Medical Malpractice and Tort Reform Act of 2003.

I am requesting everyone's support to revise the Texas Tort Claims Act.

Texans voted to enact tort reform in 2003 protecting doctors and hospitals from lawsuits and thus making it hard to hold them accountable for negligence, malpractice and accidental deaths.

My mother was admitted into UT Southwestern on May 14,2022. My mother was making great progress and set to be discharged from the hospital until she began complaining of stomach pains on her left side. With myself being in the medical field and working as an X-ray tech, I immediately informed the Nurse and requested for them to do a Cat scan (CT). The doctors refused and my mother suffered with increased left pain in her stomach for 6 days until they finally did a CT scan as requested on June 2,2022, finding holes in my mother's intestines.

She was diagnosed with diverticulitis going into septic shock twice and having 5 surgeries within a week. My mother passed away on June 20,2022 from something that could have been caught early and prevented with antibiotics and a change in her diet. Instead, no doctors came to check her and they just gave her pain medication instead of trying to find the cause.

I am hoping to revise the Texas Tort Claims Act to help hold doctor's and hospitals accountable for their negligence or malpractice. We know that doctors are not perfect and certain things can't be avoided, but doctors and hosptials should be held accountable for certain neglectful actions such as failing to tend to or treat their patients in a timely manner.
