Sweden, Transgender Women Can Be Raped, Too

A 61-year-old man brutally attacked a transgender female in Orebro, Sweden, ripping off her clothes before her ex-boyfriend intervened and stopped the assault. But he was not charged with attempted rape -- because of the woman's transgender identity.

When the would-be rapist went to court, he claimed that since he did not know the victim was "biologically a male" he would not have been physically able to rape her. He argued that he should not be charged with attempted rape. Amazingly, the court agreed, only charging him with assault.

Rape is rape, no matter the victim's gender. This is a disgusting act of transphobia and must be rectified immediately.

The victim has filed for an appeal in the hope that the attacker be charged with attempted rape. Please tell the Orebro District Court to uphold the attempted rape charge in this case and see that justice is done!

Attn: Orebro District Court, Sweden

Rape is an act of violence. Whether a victim is transgender is not the issue.

A 61-year-old man attacked a human being for the purposes of rape. Whether he completed the attack is not the issue. This attacker attempted to rape, it is as simple as that.

No human being deserves to be disregarded in such a heinous manner by the justice system they look to for protection.

We (the undersigned) implore you to do the right thing and charge this attacker with attempted rape!

Sincerely,
