J.K. Rowling Must Apologize for Supporting Anti-Trans Troll

Famed Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has brewed up a spell of trouble. Earlier this week some of her followers noticed that she had liked a tweet from an anti-trans troll who had previously lobbed hate-filled tweets at people in the trans community.

The tweet which referred to trans women as "men in dresses" was in support of excluding transgender women from the UK Labour Party's women-only shortlists for Parliament.

Many fans were disappointed with her support of such a hateful tweet and demanded an apology. But as of yet, she has only offered a terrible excuse.

In response to calls for her to explain why she would like a tweet that was clearly transphobic, Rowling's rep tried to shirk off blame by saying that the author had had a "middle-aged moment."

Claiming ignorance because she is middle-aged is both pathetic and unacceptable. Especially when you consider that Ms. Rowling promotes herself as being one of the most "woke" celebrities around. She has often come out in support of issues of racial justice and women's rights and frequently battles Trump out in the Twitterverse.

J.K. Rowling's fans deserve a real explanation and a real apology. Please join Care2 in calling on Ms. Rowling to apologize for her support of an anti-trans troll and ask her to make a donation to an organization working to promote trans rights.
