There are many reasons why people should sign this petition that will amend the Helmet Law that has been put into effect at Sebastopol Skatepark. The local skate community needs to get this law amended so they ( and myself) can enjoy the park too! I believe that adults should be allowed to take part in their passion (skateboarding), whilst exercising safety measures that they see fit for their personal skill level. Too many tickets have been issued. I live near Sebastopol Skatepark, and I don’t go there anymore in fear that the police will issue me a hefty fine/ticket. People 18 and older (adults) can ride bicycles in a public roadway helmetless and yet i can not in a park designed for skateboarding? Why must people wear a helmet when they ride a skateboard? This makes no sense to me. This is absolutely unfair to the skaters of this area, and can be attributed to the bias that skaters face from the public. This is called stereotyping, and should not be allowed to continue. The skating community is sick of and tired of living in fear! This helmet law is preventing many members of the skating community from using an area that is strictly designed for them! This is outrageous! The skatepark is the one place where skaters should feel safe. The skating community is tired of the Sebastopol Police Department patrolling the skatepark, and writing tickets to a bunch of good spirited people who are just trying to enjoy themselves and their rights as a free adult in our society! The skating community needs to band together to get this law amended! The skating community has grown tired of the harassment and mistreatment by law officials. Sign this petition, and : 1. Help the skating community feel safe again. 2. Enable the skate community to continue enjoying this park! 3. Stop the injustice that is taking place here!
