810 Mature Hardwood Trees are felled in the Rain forests of our planet to make just 1 mile of railway track! There are 26,000 miles of railway track just in the UK, if they were all made of wood that 21,060,000 trees JUST IN THE UK! As we all know the Rain forests are the lungs of our planet and it is vital to secure their wellbeing. It is not neccessary to use Hardwood or even softwood which is soaked in creosote which then leaks into the earth poisining the natural water tables or concrete, which we all know is an environmental hazard, for sleepers there are other options that are available that are quite the opposite such as composite material that is made out of waste that is bound for land fill sites !

A 2006 report by the waste and resources action programme (WRAP) notes that a mile of wooden railway sleepers requires 810 mature Hardwood trees, while an equivalent length of composite sleepers uses two million plastic bottles, 8.9 million plastic bags and 10,800 post-consumer tyres that could otherwise end up in landfill. Please take a moment to sign this petition which will be delivered to the European Commission, Barack Obama and any other World Leaders that we can access to STOP KILLING OUR PLANET NOW!
