Pickles the dog was only a baby Staffordshire Bull Terrier when someone decided she looked like fair game for cruelty. Sometime in December 2020, an unknown perpetrator abused and neglected Pickles — who was no more than 13 weeks old — until her front foot literally rotted away. Luckily, animal rescuers in Cork saved her, but the poor puppy was so horrifically maimed that she was unable to keep her wounded leg. Veterinarians were forced to amputate the limb to save her life. They say her condition is still touch-and-go but they're hopeful she will make a full recovery and eventually be adopted by a new and loving family.
Officials aren't releasing details about how they think this happened to her, but they've said they know one thing
: "This wasn't an injury that happened quickly. It was slow and painful."
Unfortunately, Pickles isn't the only pet who's been unspeakably abused recently. In late December, animal welfare organizations in Cork saw a big uptick in animal cruelty cases.
