Raise the Minimum Wage to $15

Raise the minimum wage to $15. This is the request of the residents of the United States.

The United States minimum wage is $7.25. This forces businesses and firms to legally pay their employees no less than $7.25. For years, the minimum wage has been a controversial topic for many because $7.25 is simply not enough money for workers in the United States. People who are under 18 years old and have their first job will often start out at minimum wage because they are young and inexperienced. However, many of the jobs that do this fail to take into consideration how hard of an adjustment it is for these people.  I created a survey for college students and minimum wage workers.  Out of the 27 people who responded, 63% of them agree that the minimum wage should be increased and that it would positively impact them.

For people who are older and are working out of necessity, they should not be expected to support themselves and their family with a job that pays them minimum wage. On top of that, minimum wage forces people to work several jobs. Americans should not have to work three jobs just to support themselves. Businesses and firms should be expected to pay them fairly for the work that they put in. Should the United States government raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour, it would provide more financial support to workers and would create more stability in areas where financial issues are a big problem.

If we the people want change, we must start with peaceful protest. Then, we must educate United States residents about the benefits of raising the minimum wage. From there, the people must reach out to local, state, and federal political officials. This affects everybody around the United States. If everybody was paid $15 at a minimum by businesses and firms, this would directly affect poverty, crime rates, job stability, so on and so forth.
