Judge Juan Merchan, who is overseeing Trump's hush money case, ruled Trump in contempt for nine violations of his gag order and fined him $9,000. This may not be a lot for someone with Trump's wealth, but it's just the first step, and it makes Trump the first president ever held in criminal contempt!
But if he does it again, he needs to be put in jail.
Trump is finally being sanctioned for his disgusting behavior, attacking witnesses and others involved in the case on social media after he was banned from doing so. Judge Merchan has also said that if Trump violates his gag order again, he'll consider putting Trump in jail.
We want to thank Judge Merchan for laying down the law and holding Trump accountable. But we also know that Trump will definitely violate his gag order again (he can't help himself!) so we need to make sure Trump gets jail time next – the $9,000 fine isn't going to stop him.
