He Stole and Choked His Ex-Girlfriend's Dog Just to Get Revenge

After arguing with his ex-girlfriend, a man in Slidell, Louisiana decided he knew the perfect way to get revenge. As he left her apartment, Shan Michael Mitchell stole her beloved dog and took off, refusing to return the animal. The woman was so worried for her pet's health and safety that she contacted the police, who launched a search for Mitchell and the dog, a sweet Doberman named Rubyjean.

It took an entire day, but when police finally located Mitchell, they found that Rubyjean's owner had good reason to be worried. A doorbell camera in a nearby apartment complex recorded footage of Mitchell taking out his aggression on the poor baby.

In the video, Mitchell stands outside the apartment, visibly angry. Rubyjean sits at his side, quiet, docile, and complacent. Then, in a fit of rage, Mitchell suddenly grabs the dog's leash and hoists her high into the air. He pulls on her leash with such force that, in the blink of an eye, Rubyjean is jerked straight up, dangling from her collar-noose. The tippy-toes of her hind legs are just barely touching the ground. Mitchell continues holding her there until she begins choking.

Mitchell's actions were so horrific and uncalled for, it caused an immediate visceral reaction in the community. The local police chief told reporters "I was sick to my stomach watching that video." Luckily, authorities have arrested Mitchell and have returned Rubyjean to her worried mom. But we have to make sure this case doesn't just get swept under the rug or forgotten. There's a danger that Mitchell could still go free — giving him the ability to continue subjecting innocent animals or other humans to his violent, cruel tendencies.

Help us demand justice for Rubyjean the sweet dog and her mom! Demand that police in Slidell, Louisiana charge this dog-napper and animal abuser to the full extent of the law!
