Stop The Killing of Cats at Osan Air Base

South Korean nonprofit, Beagle Rescue Network released a shocking video of what appears to be a member of the US Air Force shooting a cat in a trap at close range on May 19th. The video was taken at the Osan Air Base in South Korea. According to a report from Beagle Rescue Network, which investigated the treatment of feral cats at the air base over a period of two months, the Osan Air Base has been killing stray and feral cats trapped on site since April 2021. The base began by euthanizing the cats through a veterinarian but has transitioned to shooting them. Beagle Rescue Network reports knowledge of 10 cats who have been killed this way so far.

According to an article published in the Korean Herald, Osan Air Base is eliminating cats on the property "to ensure the safety of planes taking off and landing in the area and to prevent the spread of infectious disease."

ACR does not approve of killing cats as a means of population control under any circumstances. Sterilizing, vaccinating, and then transitioning these cats into adoption and working cat/barn cat programs is the only humane solution to the perceived threat their presence poses at the air base.
