Update Louisiana's Energy Building Codes

There is a simple legislative change that offers Louisiana Residents a way to save money on energy costs.

Building energy codes address the energy efficiency requirements for the design, materials, and equipment used in nearly all new construction, additions, renovations, and construction techniques. These requirements affect the overall energy efficiency—getting more from the energy we use—of a structure and can reduce the energy needed to maintain a healthy, comfortable, and fully functioning indoor environment.

Louisiana is the top energy consumer in the nation—Louisiana uses over 30% more electricity than the average American. Energy codes are a cost-effective way to reduce energy bills and they have not been updated since 2009! Updating the energy codes will help households and businesses save money, grow jobs, and improve the environment.
