Protect Our Women: Kempton Park Community Safety Petition
The safety of women in Kempton Park and surrounding areas has become a growing concern. Recent heartbreaking incidents have left families grieving and many residents feeling frightened and uncertain about their safety and the safety of their loved ones.
As women and members of this community, we should not have to live in fear when simply going to work, using public transport, exercising, studying, or making our way home.
While investigations into recent incidents are ongoing and authorities continue to establish the facts, we believe that urgent preventative action is also needed to help protect women and make our communities safer.
We are calling for:
1. Increased police visibility
More frequent patrols and visible policing in areas where women may be particularly vulnerable, especially during early mornings, evenings and other high-risk periods.
2. Improved lighting and surveillance
Urgent attention to poorly lit streets, pathways, public transport areas and other vulnerable spaces, together with appropriate CCTV and other lawful safety measures where needed.
3. Safer public spaces and transport routes
A review of areas where women regularly walk and travel, with practical measures introduced to reduce risks and improve access to help during emergencies.
4. Community awareness and prevention programmes
More GBV awareness initiatives, safety education and accessible information about reporting violence and accessing support services.
5. Stronger support for victims and survivors
Improved access to counselling, emergency assistance and other support services for women and families affected by gender-based violence.
6. Thorough investigations and accountability
Every case involving violence against women deserves a thorough investigation, appropriate communication with affected families and accountability where evidence supports prosecution.
This is not about panic. It is about prevention.
We are calling on local authorities, law enforcement, community leaders and residents to work together to create a safer Kempton Park and surrounding community.
Women deserve to walk, work, study, exercise, travel and return home without fear.
Please sign this petition and help us call for urgent, practical action to protect women in Kempton Park and surrounding areas.
