Trump's Attorney General, William Barr, Must Recuse Himself From The Mueller Investigation

  • by: ODAction.com

With his frequent outbursts targeted at former attorney general Jeff Sessions, Trump made it clear that he was interested not in a fair arbiter of justice with his attorney general, but a sycophant who would faithfully do his bidding.

Enter William Barr.

Trump's new attorney general pick was nominated for one reason: to oversee — and possibly hamstring — the special counsel investigation currently plaguing this administration. However, it is beyond obvious that Barr, if confirmed, should recuse himself from all matters relating to this probe.

Not only had Trump approached Barr weeks ago about joining his legal defense team, which alone would necessitate his recusal from the investigation given his newfound familiarity with Trump's legal position, but the Wall Street Journal also uncovered a 20-page memo sent from Barr to the Justice Department in June criticizing Mueller's investigation.

Barr called Mueller's inquiries into Trump's potential obstruction of justice based on a "fatally misconceived" theory that could have "potentially disastrous implications" in the future.

Even more unnerving in all of this is the fact that Robert Mueller's investigation is obviously not frivolous. With indictments or guilty pleas from 34 people and three companies — including five former members of Trump's own administration — the probe has proven itself necessary time and time again.

The irony of setting damaging precedents in the Trump era is clearly lost on Mr. Barr.

William Barr should not be given the opportunity to oversee an investigation that he has already attacked - voluntarily, at that. We, the undersigned, demand that in the event Barr becomes Trump's next attorney general, he recuses himself immediately and unequivocally from Robert Mueller's rightful and fruitful investigation into Donald Trump.
