Facebook: crack down on posts which exhibit injured children/animals for likes

I am very concerned by the increasing amount of graphic images of sick/injured children and animals apearing in my news feed on Facebook. It is evident that the sole purpose of the majority of images are displayed for "likes" and "shares"
A few weeks back an image of a badly burnt baby was displayed on my news feed with the heading "For every like and share recieved Facebook will donate x amount of money! How disgusting to use a child in this way.
Today there was an image of a young man holding a puppy up to the camera with literally half its face cut off! the title read "Like = you care and Ignore = heartless" I am so concerned for the welfare of this poor dog that desperately needs medical attention and am horrified to suspect that this cruel act was carried out for the sole purpose of "likes and "shares"
Facebook clearly needs to step up its game in preventing material like this circulating its site. Facebook needs to re-think its like and share system so that "like whores" can not profit from it. Reporting offensive material needs to be simplified and improved as often the last person that shared it are simply innocent victims that have fallen for its fakery. The image needs to be traced to its original source!
