The Midterm elections are on Tuesday, November 6th, and experts all over the country are saying this could be one of the most important elections of our lifetimes. It may sound dramatic or over-the-top, but it's true. This year, everything we hold dear is at stake. We can't equivocate about this: we MUST vote and restore faith in our democracy.
Does the current state of our democracy, the country we care so much about, worry you? Are you concerned that fear and hatred are creeping out of every corner and starting to infect politics and our basic way of life?
Do you care about the rights of children, being viciously and sadistically ripped away from their families simply because they're immigrants, only to be locked in detention centers? Then you need to vote.
What about the right of trans people to simply even exist in this world? Their right to not be fired randomly, just based on their gender identity?
Or the environment? Scientists are now saying we only have until 2030 — that's 11 years from now — to curb climate change before it's too late. If you care about the earth or our ability to live on it, then you need to vote to elect leaders who will take this problem seriously.
If you care about any of these issues — or reproductive healthcare and women's bodily autonomy, or civil rights and racial justice, or voting rights, or telling corporations they CAN'T buy elections, or holding sexual predators accountable, or gun safety and ending mass shootings, or a myriad of other important issues — then there's no other way to say it: You NEED to vote.
This is a crucial election. In many districts and in many states, the Congressional and Senate elections are going to be INCREDIBLY tight. Just a few thousand voters could actually swing the election in many places. We won't have another chance to vote for 2 more years, so make your voice heard while you still can!
Our democracy is on the line, and our ability to affect history is only limited by the number of people we can turn out to vote. We have a real opportunity here to remind the people in power that WE are the ones who are actually in charge. We are politicians' true bosses — not corporations that try to buy them off. That's why politicians are so afraid of us voting. That's why they're trying to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of voters in Georgia, North Dakota, Utah, and Nevada.
We cannot let those who want to silence us win. We MUST show our elected officials that they will hear from us — whether they like it or not.
This is our democracy. We are the voters. We are in charge. And we will speak out loud and clear.
YOU can change the course of history. Are you with us? If the answer is "yes," then sign this Pledge, and tell people you Care2 Be A Voter!
