Instead of Guns and Hate, This Politician Blamed Trans People and Gay Marriage as the Cause of Mass Shootings

Americans have heard it all. Unfortunately, we have become so used to mass shootings that can predict how our nation's politicians will respond afterward. There will be thoughts and prayers sent on Twitter, there will be calls for unity and pleas to not jump to conclusions. And of course, there will be outrage.

So after the carnage of the past 10 days, where America saw three mass shootings in little more than a week. The nation collected themselves to hear the meaningless speeches from politicians who have no intention of taking action. But even after hearing the ridiculous nonsense spewed by Trump, McConnell, and others, one politician's response to the massacres was so offensive and senseless it left people enraged and demanding action.

Ohio State Rep. Candice Keller from Middletown in Butler County, just 30 miles of Dayton, Ohio, the site of the most recent mass shooting that left 9 dead, opted not to send her thoughts and prayers on Facebook. Rather, she took to the social media platform to spread vitriol and hate.

In her post, she blamed homosexuals, transgender people, and drag queens. She denounced violent video games, implicated immigrants and pointed liberals lack of respect for law enforcement. She blamed everything under the sun except the actual cause of these three violent mass murders — assault rifles, white supremacy and inaction on the part of the Republicans.

The Ohio politician suggested that the only if it weren't for the LGBTQ community, America would be much safer. While some of us might laugh at or simply ignore her comments. In reality, they aren't just shameful, they are dangerous. By her words, Keller — who says she will run for state senate in 2020 — put LGBTQ people at risk. Stories abound of people who took the words of powerful people to heart and used them as an excuse to commit violence against others. And with just one irresponsible post, she did just that.

Keller belongs on Fox News, not in the halls of government. Since she doesn't care about representing all of her constituents, many of which she offended with her post, she should resign. Let's help anti-LGBTQ State Rep. Candice Keller out of office. Sign the petition and demand she resign today.
